A member of the Texas Longhorns running back unit has opted to explore new opportunities following the recent Orange-White spring game.

As reported by Pete Nakos of On3.com, Texas RB Ty Woods has declared his intention to enter the transfer portal. Woods, who spent the past two seasons in Austin, made appearances in just three games in 2023, primarily contributing on special teams.

Hailing from League City, TX, Woods was a standout at Clear Springs High School, earning accolades such as first-team all-district selection and Texas District 24-6A Ironman of the Year during his high school career. Additionally, he showcased his speed on the track with an impressive 10.92-second 100m dash.

Upon graduating from Clear Springs, the 5-foot-9 running back had a list of college suitors including Texas, Air Force, Dartmouth, and Tulane. He was regarded as one of the top 150 running backs in the nation when he committed to the Longhorns. Now, Woods seeks opportunities elsewhere to showcase his talents on the field.

With Woods’ decision to transfer, the Longhorns’ roster now features seven running backs, with Jonathan Brooks, a 1,000-yard rusher, leading the pack.

Despite losing Woods to the transfer portal, the Texas Longhorns are in good shape. They project to once again be a very serious playoff contender.

As the season progresses, most of the attention will be on the quarterback position. Quinn Ewers will likely be the starter, but Arch Manning has improved and developed to the point where fans will be wanting to see him play as well.
