Cowboys, Chiefs Projected To Make Massive Trade In NFL Draft

Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys

Could the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs hook on up a blockbuster trade in the NFL Draft?

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell makes the suggestion.

Barnwell proposes that the Cowboys trade the 24th overall pick to the Chiefs in exchange for the 32nd pick, a third-round pick and a fifth-rounder.

This would allow Dallas to have more opportunities to fill out the roster, while Kansas City would be able to move up for a player who could help the club in its quest for a three-peat.

Barnwell notes that the Cowboys had to let some key starters go in free agency due to financial constraints, and replacing them through the draft may be the only way to go.

Dallas has one of the most unenviable salary-cap situations in football.

Not only are the Cowboys tight against the cap, but they also have to worry about paying quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and edge rusher Micah Parsons.

Both Prescott and Lamb are preparing to enter the final years of their respective deals, and Parsons became eligible for a contract extension this offseason.

Dallas has reached a stalemate in negotiations with Prescott, and there is already talk of Lamb holding out of training camp if he doesn’t secure a new deal.

The Cowboys seem okay with the idea of allowing Prescott to be play out 2024 and then test free agency next offseason based on the fact that he is reportedly asking for $60 million annually.

Due to the amount of money it will cost to retain all of its top players, Dallas may have to start making preparations in the event that any of them depart.
