When taking a look at the San Francisco 49ers’ roster, it is hard to find a weakness. They are strong in every facet of the game and when clicking on all cylinders, as they have been the last few weeks, they look like the best team in the NFL.

Oddsmakers certainly believe in them as the 49ers are favorites in this weekend’s showdown against the 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles. That is a lot of respect for San Francisco, who is riding a three-game winning streak and has been dismantling their opponents.

Outside of a three-game losing streak in the middle of the season, the 49ers have been truly dominant with Brock Purdy under center. They have won all but one of their eight games this season by double-figures are poised to make a deep run in the postseason.

However, if there was one area of the team that opponents could exploit, it could be their secondary. The defensive backfield was regarded as the team’s biggest weakness heading into the trade deadline. While a move wasn’t made to directly upgrade the cornerback position, landing defensive end Chase Young should help take pressure off the secondary bolstering the pass rush.

NFL News & Rumors: Marcus Peters & San Francisco 49ers Updates

If San Franciso does want to add to their defense, an intriuging option did recently become a free agent. Veteran Marcus Peters was released by the Las Vegas Raiders and could be someone the 49ers look into adding to the team. They were named as a potential suitor by CBS Sports.

“The 49ers currently boast the league’s top-ranked defense, but their secondary could use a little help. Peters could provide competition for Deommodore Lenoir, a third-year pro who is currently starting alongside Charvarius Ward,” they wrote.

Peters started all 12 games for the Raiders before his release. He record 43 total tackles with one interception and five passes defended. His interception was an impressive one, as he took it back 75 yards for a touchdown in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.

A little competition never hurt anyone, as Lenoir could stand to learn a thing or two from Peters, who at one time was an elite playmaker. He hasn’t quite regained that form since injuring his knee two years ago, but he would still be a solid addition to the 49ers.

At the very least he would provide the team with an experienced veteran to lean on in a pinch should an injury occur or ineffectivness plagues the secondary. However, if the 49ers are going to make a move, it could some at the safety position, where they lost star Talanoa Hufanga to a torn ACL in Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
