49ers’ Nick Bosa Makes Bold Statement About Team’s Defense

Through the first four weeks of the NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers are 2-2. But, that is in large part due to the offense, which has struggled to get going thus far. Starting quarterback Trey Lance was injured in Week 2, which led to the team turning things back over to Jimmy Garoppolo.

It will take some time for the offense to get on track as the entire scheme was geared toward Lance, who is a totally different quarterback from Garoppolo. Luckily for the 49ers, their defense has been up to the task so far keeping them in games.

San Francisco’s defense has put the team in a position to win every week as they are near the top in most statistical categories. That is why defensive end Nick Bosa made such a bold claim earlier his week about the team’s defense.

“I think it’s best in the league,” Bosa said, via the team’s website. “It’s our mindset every year and this year we have the personnel to do it. All three levels are just elite players.”

The Los Angeles Rams would certainly agree with that sentiment. They were manhandled by the 49ers’ defense on Monday Night Football, 24-9. Bosa was disruptive all evening, sacking Matthew Stafford twice and hitting him five times.

Week 4 was just another feather in the cap for the San Francisco defense. They are one of only two teams, along with the Dallas Cowboys, that have not surrendered 20 points in a game yet this season. The 46 points and three touchdowns that they have surrendered in four games are tops in the league.

San Francisco is also first in yards allowed, as they have given up only 645 passing yards and 293 rushing yards. Moving the ball against them has been a struggle as they are loaded with talent on that side of the ball.

They will have a chance to bolster those numbers in the next two weeks when they head on the road to face the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. Both of those teams have struggled mightily on offense this season and it is hard to imagine them figuring things out against the 49ers.
