Russell Wilson is preparing to begin a new chapter of his NFL career after signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers last month, and he seems excited to get going.

“To play 13 years in the NFL has been a dream come true,” Wilson said, via Okla Jones of Essence. “To be able to play for Mike Tomlin, to stand side by side with him and try to accomplish all the goals that I want to accomplish with the Steelers organization, and what that represents for the NFL, is one of the greatest gifts in the world.”

Wilson had spent the last two years with the Denver Broncos before being released by the club. He then went on to join the Steelers, who made the most sense for him in free agency all along.

To say that the 35-year-old’s stint in Denver was disastrous would be putting it lightly.

The Broncos acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks in March 2022 with the expectation that he would bring the franchise back to prominence.

Instead, Wilson suffered through the worst season of his career in his debut campaign with the club, throwing 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in a 5-12 year.

Wilson did rebound in 2023, throwing for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight picks, but it was still pretty clear that he was not the same player from his Seahawks days. He also did not see eye to eye with head coach Sean Payton.

Perhaps Wilson can find the fountain of youth in Pittsburgh and rediscover the formula that made him a nine-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion in Seattle.

The Steelers went 10-7 fielding Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph under center this past season, so moving on to Russell Wilson is clearly a massive upgrade.
