NFL Exec Reveals Bold Comparison For Colts’ Anthony Richardson

Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson had an unfortunate rookie campaign, as he bowed out due to a shoulder injury after just four games. He also sustained a concussion in Week 2 that sidelined him for a contest.

However, there are high expectations for Richardson heading into 2024, and a former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network of a very interesting comparison for the youngster.

“I’ve heard the Cam Newton comparisons, but I have one better for you. I think he has more Josh Allen in him than Newton,” the former exec said.

Richardson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was selected by the Colts with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft last spring.

During the short time he was on the field in 2023, he threw for 577 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.3. He also rushed for 136 yards and four scores.

There is no doubt that Richardson has tantalizing potential, but he may need to curb his reckless style of play in order to avoid injuries.

Fortunately for Richardson, he has some solid weapons at his disposal in the form of running back Jonathan Taylor and receivers Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Alec Pierce, so he should be able to feel comfortable throwing the football rather than risking injury in the running game.

Of course, Richardson being a lethal dual threat is the reason Indianapolis drafted him, but he will still need to take care in order to prolong his career.

We’ll see what Anthony Richardson can do over the course of a full season in 2024 and if he does, in fact, resemble Josh Allen.
