The Minnesota Vikings have yet to agree to a long-term contract with Justin Jefferson, who is preparing to enter the final year of his deal.
This has created some recent trade speculation around the star wide receiver, and David Jacoby of Fox Sports thinks Jefferson will end up getting dealt by the deadline next October.
Jefferson is certainly in the middle of an interesting situation with the Vikings.
Not only has Minnesota not locked up him with an extension, but the team just saw Kirk Cousins walk to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, so Jefferson doesn’t even know who his quarterback will be next season.
Couple that with the fact that Jefferson recently told Kevin Hart that he was jealous of former LSU teammates Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase in Cincinnati, and you have to wonder if Jefferson even wants to remain with the Vikings for the long haul.
There is no doubting Jefferson’s talent. He is one of the top pass-catchers in football and has logged 1,000 yards in each of his first four NFL seasons. He even managed to achieve that feat this past year in spite of missing seven games and playing considerable time without Cousins, who went down with a torn Achilles midway through the year.
Jefferson’s best campaign to date came in 2022, when he led the league in both receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809) to go along with eight touchdowns.
He made the Pro Bowl his first three seasons and also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection.
The 24-year-old was selected by the Vikings with the 22nd overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
We’ll see how much longer Justin Jefferson lasts in Minnesota.
