NFL Exec Believes Green Bay Packers Will Make This Trade

The Green Bay Packers own the 25th overall pick of the NFL Draft later this month, but a former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that he expects the Packers to try and trade up.

“Rumors have been flying that the Packers and Seahawks have had trade talks about the No. 16 pick,” the former exec said. “I think that’s actually something that will get done if the player Green Bay wants is available. The framework is in place.”

Green Bay owns 11 draft picks in total this year, which is tied for the most in the league. That means the Packers obviously have more than enough ammo to move up if they so desire.

The question is, who would Green Bay want at No. 16?

The Packers have several needs, but perhaps none is bigger than their offensive line, particularly on the interior. Green Bay also has a hole at linebacker, and even edge rusher could be a need. If not now, then for the future.

Seattle seems to be a good candidate to trade down unless it has its eyes set on a quarterback like Bo Nix with the 16th pick, although whether or not Nix will actually be there at that spot is debatable.

Unless the Seahawks view Sam Howell as their future at signal-caller behind Geno Smith, they are probably thinking about taking a quarterback in the NFL Draft, although they could potentially move down and still be able to select someone like Michael Penix Jr.

The Packers are coming off of a surprising 2023 campaign in which they went 9-8 and made the playoffs thanks to some superb play from Jordan Love. They went on to upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

We’ll see if Green Bay can, in fact, strike a deal with Seattle to move up from 25th to 16th in the first round of the draft later this month.
