Week 6 was a disaster for the San Francisco 49ers. Not only did they suffer their first loss of the season, falling 19-17 to the Cleveland Browns after rookie kicker Jake Moody missed a field goal on the final play of the game, the team lost multiple key players to injury.

Running back Christian McCaffrey is dealing with a rib/oblique issue that knocked him out of the game against the Browns. He left the game in the third quarter, which was a huge blow to the team. Through six games, the star running back has accounted for a third of the 49ers’ offense.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan did add that the MRI McCaffrey underwent was encouraging, which is excellent news. If he is unable to go in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football, the team will turn to Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell.

He joined star wide receiver Deebo Samuel on the sidelines. Samuel hurt his shoulder in the first quarter and was unable to get back on the field. Quarterback Brock Purdy struggled to get into a rhythm without two of his best weapons, struggling against what has been a dominant Browns defense to this point.

It certainly didn’t help that his star left tackle, Trent Williams, was also banged up in the game. Williams hurt his ankle, but unlike McCaffrey and Samuel, he was able to return to the field on Sunday afternoon.

While it was a disappointing outcome against the Browns with three key contributors getting injured, Shanahan did offer a positive update on all three players. To this point, none of them have been ruled out for Week 7 and all are considered day-to-day.

With no long-term injuries sustained, the 49ers will just have to manage maybe a week or two without their stars in the lineup. After that, they should be back at full strength and ready to assume their spot atop the NFC standings.
