2. Kyle Allen Plays Well In Debut
It’s happened. Ron Rivera made the move to bench Dwayne Haskins and start Kyle Allen. Alex Smith is officially the backup quarterback this week. Smith could play if the wheels come off for Allen but for this week, Rivera is starting someone who knows the offense.
Allen played for the Panthers in 2019 under Rivera. This is an instance where Rivera wants his guy under center. That is not Haskins. Once the offseason comes, Washington could look for a veteran in free agency or they could draft their next quarterback.
As for this season, Washington needs Allen to step up. Rivera referenced the state of the NFC East and that it is time to make a move in hopes of winning some games.
This is a big chance for Allen. He will have to play well in this game and it would be extremely impressive against a tough defense in Los Angeles. The coach and quarterback duo know each other well and they will come up with a game plan that works.
