Could the Miami Dolphins attempt to swing a deal for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline?
Jacob Camenker of The Sporting News seems to think it is a possibility.
You wouldn’t expect the Dolphins to be in the market for a wide out, as they boast one of the best receiving tandems in the league in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
However, it’s worth noting that Miami tried to add some more depth to its receiving corps by trading for Chase Claypool earlier in the season, so perhaps the Dolphins do want another piece behind their top two guys?
Claypool is yet to even touch the football since being acquired by Miami back on Oct. 6, so it remains to be seen if he will make an impact for the club at all in 2023.
With Thielen, on the other hand, you know what you’re getting: a sure-handed receiver who has displayed incredible consistency throughout his NFL career.
Thielen has been very busy with the Panthers this season, hauling in 49 receptions for 509 yards and four touchdowns. While he certainly wouldn’t get as many targets with the Dolphins, he would still represent a significant upgrade over everything else Miami currently has behind Hill and Waddle.
The Panthers are 0-6 and are clearly in rebuilding mode, and the 33-year-old Thielen does not really match up with Carolina’s timeline. As a result, he could be a potential trade candidate before the end of the month.
The Dolphins’ aerial attack is already lethal. Imagine how much better it would get with Thielen joining the fray? It’s frightening to think about.
All of that being said, Thielen has been the favorite target of Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young, so it’s entirely possible Carolina will ultimately hold on to Adam Thielen in order to make life easier for Young.
Still, if the Panthers receive a strong enough offer, it’s hard to imagine them not seriously considering pulling the trigger to add more assets for their rebuild.
