Aldon Smith named a potential target for Seahawks in free agency

The Seattle Seahawks are heading into the NFL offseason knowing that they need to do some work on their defense. Once feared around the NFL, they are no longer an “elite” unit. Adding some beef to their pass-rush would be a major plus, which is why Aldon Smith is a name fans should expect to hear.

Rumors swirled that the Seahawks were interested in trading for him ahead of the NFL trade deadline last year. However, the Dallas Cowboys were not willing to move him. Revisiting that interest in free agency would make a lot of sense.

Pro Football Focus certainly thinks so and they have listed Smith as an ideal free agency target for the Seahawks.

Smith had a major comeback season in 2020 and was a huge part of the Cowboys’ defense. In fact, he was one of the only bright spots in that unit.

When everything was said and done, Smith racked up 48 total tackles to go along with five sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two defended passes. Not too bad for a guy who hadn’t played in the NFL since 2015.

Now that his off-the-field issues seem to be behind him, plenty of teams will have interest in signing him. There is no doubt that the 31-year-old defensive end can make an impact wherever he signs. If the Seahawks choose to bring him in, he would be an instant fit with their defense.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Aldon Smith this offseason. He may not end up with the Seahawks, but they are likely to show interest.

Expect to hear more rumors come out about the Seahawks and Aldon Smith as the NFL offseason draws closer. It would be smart for the two parties to consider teaming up in free agency.
