Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will be back for a full season in 2024 after missing half of this past year while recovering from a torn ACL.
The problem is, Murray does not have many weapons to utilize in the passing game.
Wide receiver Marquise Brown departed via free agency, and the Cardinals traded fellow wide out Rondale Moore to the Atlanta Falcons for backup quarterback Desmond Ridder.
Arizona owns the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft next month and is expected to take Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., but even if the Cardinals do select Harrison, they will still lack depth in their receiving corps.
That’s why Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team feels that Arizona should swing a trade for disgruntled Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins.
The Bengals slapped a franchise tag on Higgins earlier this offseason, preventing him from reaching free agency. It didn’t sit well with Higgins, who asked for a trade.
Valentino suggests that the Cardinals send the 27th overall pick and a fifth-rounder to Cincinnati in exchange for Higgins, who would instantly become Arizona’s No. 1 receiver.
Now, just because Higgins requested to be dealt does not mean the Bengals have to oblige. Cincinnati has him through at least next season, and it can still reach a long-term deal with him between now and the middle of July.
Is a contract extension in Cincy a realistic option for Higgins at this stage? Probably not, considering the Bengals also need to lock up Ja’Marr Chase for the long haul. But the point is, Cincinnati absolutely does not have to move him, especially considering the club is trying to contend for a Super Bowl in 2024.
If the Bengals do put Higgins on the trade block, however, the Cardinals would certainly represent a potential destination.
Tee Higgins logged just 42 catches for 656 yards and five touchdowns this past year, although he played in just 12 games due to injuries. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2021 and 2022.
