The Los Angeles Rams selected Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse with the 19th overall pick of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, and legendary head coach Bill Belichick certainly appreciated the Rams’ choice.

While analyzing the draft on The Pat McAfee Show, Belichick raved about Verse.

“I really like Verse,” Belichick said. “He … can play outside, can play inside. Powerful, explosive. There’s so much to like about this guy.”

Los Angeles needed to add another pass rusher after losing Aaron Donald to retirement, and Verse definitely fits the bill.

Verse is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he racked up 41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The 23-year-old began his collegiate career at the University of Albany in 2019. He redshirted his first season and made his debut in 2020, logging 22 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Verse then broke out in 2021, rattling off 53 stops, 11.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He transferred to Florida State the following yaer.

In his debut campaign with the Seminoles, Verse registered 48 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, nine sacks and a fumble recovery.

Verse will join a Rams pass rush that also includes Kobie Turner, Byron Young and Michael Hoecht, giving Los Angeles a very impressive crop of young defenders up front.

Bill Belichick seems to think LA made a great decision, so we’ll see if Jared Verse can live up to expectations in 2024.
