Cardinals Named Top Landing Spot For Former 1,000-Yard WR

DJ Chark, Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are in desperate need of some weapons in their aerial attack.

Yes, the Cardinals own the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft next month and are widely expected to select Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., which should be a big help.

But the thing is, Harrison is an incoming rookie, and the jury is out on what type of NFL player he will be (even if he looks like he will be spectacular).

Also, even if Harrison comes in and plays well, Arizona needs some depth behind him, and after trading away Rondale Moore, the Cardinals’ depth at receiver is pretty limited.

That’s why Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Talk views DJ Chark as a great potential pickup for the Cards.

Chark spent the 2023 campaign with the Carolina Panthers, playing in 15 games and logging 35 catches for 525 yards and five touchdowns.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

After barely playing during his rookie year, Chark broke out in a big way in his sophomore season, hauling in 73 receptions for 1,008 yards and eight scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 6-foot-3 Chark seemed primed to climb the ladder of the league’s elite receivers, but instead, he took a major step back in 2020, catching 53 passes for 706 yards while reaching the end zone five times.

Injuries then limited Chark to just four games the following year, and since then, he has been playing catch up. He linked up with the Detroit Lions for one year in 2022, snaring 30 balls for 502 yards and three touchdowns. He then joined the Panthers last offseason.

All of that being said, Chark is still fairly young, has a 1,000-yard campaign on his resume and obviously comes with some upside.

He could represent exactly what Kyler Murray needs in the desert next season.
