In the recent 2024 NFL Draft, one of the quieter yet intriguing moves occurred in the fifth round when the New Orleans Saints selected Spencer Rattler, the quarterback from South Carolina.

This selection, coupled with the New York Jets’ choice of Jordan Travis from Florida State in the same round, sparked interest as late-round quarterback acquisitions.

Rattler, a seasoned player, spent four years as a college starter, first at Oklahoma from 2020 to 2021 and then at South Carolina from 2022 to 2023.

ESPN analyst and former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III highlighted Rattler’s potential as a steal for New Orleans in a discussion on his YouTube channel.

“He has the most gifted arm in the QB room.”

With the steady presence of veteran Derek Carr to learn from, Rattler finds himself in an advantageous position with minimal pressure.

Griffin’s endorsement of Rattler’s throwing prowess holds weight, considering the quarterback’s impressive college stats.

Rattler surpassed 3,000 passing yards in three out of his four years as a starter, amassing over 10,000 career passing yards. The Saints’ decision to draft a seasoned college starter in the fifth round, coupled with the presence of a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback like Carr, reflects astute decision-making.

Given Carr’s age of 33 and New Orleans’ middling performance since Drew Brees’ retirement, speculation arises about Rattler potentially being the franchise’s future cornerstone.

Griffin’s analysis underscores Spencer Rattler’s promising traits as a developmental asset, hinting at the possibility of him becoming a significant figure for the Saints down the line.
