Is it already time to admit that Desmond Ridder may not be the answer at quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons? Questions have also arisen about Kyler Murray‘s future with the Arizona Cardinals.
Ridder struggled during the Falcons’ Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, going 19-for-31 with 191 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He was also sacked four times.
On the season overall, Ridder has thrown for 744 yards, three touchdowns and three picks while completing 62.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 77.9.
Are those terrible numbers? No, but it’s easy to see that Ridder’s play has not exactly been inspiring, much like his four starts during his rookie campaign a year ago.
Of course, there is still plenty of time for Ridder to get going, and it’s not likely that Atlanta will throw in the towel on him just yet. However, if the club can upgrade at signal-caller, it would surely jump at the opportunity.
Here is an interesting thought: could the Falcons send Desmond Ridder to the Arizona Cardinals in a deal that would net them Kyler Murray? Christopher Kline of FanSided poses the possibility.
Murray’s time in Arizona seems to be coming to an end. He is currently sidelined as he recovers from a torn ACL, but rumors have been swirling that the Cardinals are done with Murray and will attempt to move him.
Kline suggests that the Falcons could trade Ridder and a third-round draft pick to the Cards for Murray, a fourth-round pick and a fifth-rounder. While that may not seem like a huge return for Murray, keep in mind that he was handed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension in July 2022, so Atlanta would be taking on massive salary in this hypothetical deal.
Say what you want about Murray, but he is explosive, and his presence could transform the Falcons’ offense. Meanwhile, the Cardinals would land a young quarterback in Ridder plus a third-round pick.
It’s probably a pipe dream at this point, but you can certainly understand why Atlanta could potentially have interest in Murray.
