Kansas City Chiefs Urged To Sign Former 1,000-Yard Receiver

With the status of Rashee Rice hanging in the balance, the Kansas City Chiefs may need to add another wide receiver heading into 2024.

The good news is that there are still numerous veteran receivers remaining on the free-agent market, and Conner Christopherson of Arrowhead Report thinks the team should pursue Tyler Boyd.

The recommendation of Boyd comes after James Palmer of NFL Network reported that Rice will probably be suspended for at least half of next season due to his current legal issues.

The Chiefs have already added a couple of weapons this offseason, signing Marquise Brown and drafting University of Texas wide out Xavier Worthy, but if Rice is going to be out for an extended period of time, they may need to do some more work at the position.

Could Boyd be the answer?

The former Cincinnati Bengals star is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he caught 67 passes for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns, so he clearly has plenty left in the tank.

It’s also important to note that Boyd did that as the Bengals’ No. 3 receiver behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, so with Rice sidelined, he would probably get more opportunities in Kansas City.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was selected by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018 and 2019, and while he hasn’t logged 1,000 yards in any one season since, he has registered over 800 yards twice.

Boyd is probably the best receiver remaining on the market, and although Patrick Mahomes was able to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl title with Rice and not much else in the receiving corps this past season, he would surely like to add another piece to make things easier for him.

We’ll see if Kansas City places a call to Boyd in the coming weeks.
