Despite achieving significant success with the Minnesota Vikings, quarterback Kirk Cousins doesn’t seem to have a long-term future with the team. Speculations are rife that he will become a free agent in the upcoming offseason, and one potential destination appears to stand out.
According to a report by Darren Wolfson of SKOR North, the Atlanta Falcons are emerging as a noteworthy contender for Cousins’ services in the offseason. The prevailing sentiment is that the Falcons are the “logical landing spot” if Cousins decides to part ways with the Vikings.
Atlanta finds itself in dire need of a quarterback after enduring years of instability at the position. This season, they posted a 7-9 record with Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke at the helm, but neither has displayed standout performances.
While the Falcons could opt to draft a young quarterback, having Kirk Cousins on their roster would offer the advantage of providing a budding quarterback with a “redshirt year” to develop.
It’s worth noting that Cousins had a career-best season going for him until a season-ending Achilles injury sidelined him in the middle of the campaign. Since joining the Vikings in 2018, he has steered them to the playoffs twice, with a postseason appearance in 2022.
While the actual decision of whether the Falcons will pursue Cousins is yet to unfold, there has been a significant amount of speculation connecting the two parties.
On paper, this potential union seems mutually beneficial, with the Falcons addressing their quarterback woes and Cousins finding a new home to continue his NFL journey.
