The Baltimore Ravens were rumored to be a potential destination for running back Derrick Henry at the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, but nothing came to fruition.
Henry ultimately remained with the Tennessee Titans, and the Ravens stood pat.
It wasn’t for a lack of Baltimore trying, however.
During his very own Punch Line Podcast earlier this week, cornerback Marlon Humphrey said that he was almost certain that Henry was going to be a Raven by the end of the deadline.
“I was about 85 percent sure that King Henry would be suiting up for the Ravens,” Humphrey said. “It did not happen. My source was incorrect. He had me thinking it was a done deal.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time that a source was incorrect or was fed inaccurate information, but it’s also entirely possible that a deal was close but fell apart at the last second.
“I got a text (that) somebody was going to be suiting up in purple,” explained Humphrey. “I got a text that somebody was going to walk into Baltimore, Maryland, (with) a height (of about) 6-4. I got a text that there was a very high chance that a guy that usually goes by ‘King’ was going to be in purple and black in M&T Bank Stadium very soon.”
Unfortunately, Humphrey ended up being disappointed in the end.
The Ravens were not the only club pegged as a possible landing spot for Henry, as the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were also mentioned as potential destinations. But ultimately, the Titans chose to hold on to their franchise icon.
Henry has rushed for 601 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry this season. He has also logged 18 catches for 165 yards.
The 29-year-old has spent his entire eight-year career in Tennessee, making three trips to the Pro Bowl and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection. He led the NFL in rushing yards back-to-back campaigns in 2019 and 2020, racking up 2,027 yards in the latter season.
The good news for Humphrey is that Baltimore seems to be just fine without Derrick Henry with a record of 7-2.
