In Week 9, one of the most explosive offensive games of the season took place with the Miami Dolphins visiting the Chicago Bears. The Dolphins possess one of the best passing offenses in the NFL led by Tua Tagovailoa and his top wideouts, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Chicago is on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to passing the ball, but they possess the best run offense in the NFL.

That led to a fun, high-scoring affair as the Dolphins won the game 35-32. One player who was quiet in the game for Miami was tight end Mike Gesicki. Gesicki registered over 700 yards in each of his first two seasons in the NFL but is projected to fall short of 500 this season.

Given the addition of Hill, a drop in production was expected, but Gesicki seems like an afterthought in this offense. Could seeing Bears’ tight end Cole Kmet get targeted six times, catching five passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns, leave Gesicki yearning for the Windy City?

Over at Bleacher Report, a piece was put together making some early predictions for the 2023 offseason. Gesicki is arguably the best pass catcher with a chance to change teams in free agency and the Bears were listed as the landing spot for the Penn State product.

Chicago is going to spend a lot of time this offseason looking to upgrade the weapons around Justin Fields. Fields has made major strides in recent weeks, looking more and more like a franchise quarterback despite being put in a tough position by the franchise.

After struggling the first four weeks of the season after a tumultuous rookie campaign, Fields is getting comfortable and gaining confidence. He needs some more weapons and the big-bodied Gesicki could be a good addition.

Gesicki isn’t known for his blocking, which makes him someone that isn’t a fit for every scheme but is an excellent pass catcher. He could be a great complement to the all-around Kmet, who is leading the Bears with five touchdown receptions this season.

With the wide receiver position looking scarce in free agency in 2023, the Bears will have to get creative in upgrading the weapons around Fields. Adding someone of Gesicki’s caliber to the mix would be a great start in achieving that goal.
