All eyes have turned to the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback Joe Burrow in recent days. After Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers agreed to a record-setting contract, many are expecting Joe Burrow to reset the record sooner than later.

Herbert topped the contract that Lamar Jackson signed, as the deal he agreed to with the Baltimore Ravens was the record holder for a little while. His deal topped that of Jalen Hurts with the Philadelphia Eagles, who set the record earlier this season.

Joe Burrow, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, is expected to receive an extension from the Bengals that would make him the highest-paid player in NFL history. Herbert currently holds that as his annual average value is $52.5 million.

Naturally, it is something that Joe Burrow was asked about during a press conference this week with the Bengals opening training camp. “It gets done when it gets done,” Burrow said in his press conference. “We’ll see.”

While Joe Burrow said that he isn’t paying attention to what other players around the league are making, his agents almost certainly are. They are going to get as much money for their client as they can in the ever-expanding quarterback market.

Alas, that isn’t something that he is worried about. Joe Burrow is putting all of his focus on the 2023 season, not whether or not a contract extension is worked out before the regular season gets underway.

“I’m focused on getting a deal done that’s good for us, good for me, good for the team, good for everybody,” Burrow said.

While Joe Burrow is saying all of the right things, his contract situation will continue drawing headlines until a deal gets done. He has proven to be one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL and the Bengals will have to compensate him as such.

Complicating matters, however, is that he isn’t the only player that is due an extension. Wide receiver Tee Higgins and linebacker Logan Wilson are both eligible this offseason and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is eligible next year.

Figuring out a way to compensate everyone is a near impossibility. The Bengals learned that this offseason when star safety Jessie Bates III departed in free agency. Joe Burrow certainly isn’t going anywhere, but some of his supporting cast could look different in the coming months.
