BREAKING: Chargers Closing In On Deal With Jim Harbaugh

Melanie Maxwell / USA TODAY NETWORKMichigan head coach Jim Harbaugh looks on during second half of the College Football Playoff national championship game against Washington at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

It appears increasingly likely that Jim Harbaugh will assume the role of the next head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers.

As per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Chargers are on the verge of finalizing a deal with Harbaugh, with a crucial meeting scheduled for this Tuesday in Los Angeles.

“My understanding is an extremely strong offer was made to him, financially. They’re now at the point where they can discuss staffing when it comes to general manager and the coaching staff alongside Harbaugh. This feels like it’s advancing to the point where, if everyone is comfortable with a lot of the factors at play, this team could try to get him under contract in the near future.”

Despite the Chargers’ prior reputation for frugality in hiring coaches, it is worth noting that they have presented an exceptionally compelling offer to Harbaugh, according to Garafolo’s report.

Harbaugh has consistently ranked as the top choice for the Chargers throughout their coaching search, indicating the ownership’s belief in his ability to guide the franchise back to success.

This confidence is well-founded, considering Harbaugh’s previous NFL coaching experience, where he guided the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship three times in just a four-year span.

The potential partnership of Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert holds the promise of making a significant impact in the competitive AFC West.
