What To Expect From Melvin Gordon In 2020
Honestly, there are quite a few variables that will decide what kind of season Gordon has with the Broncos this season.
First of all, the Broncos will have some decisions to make at the position itself. Gordon seems likely to start the year as the starter, but Phillip Lindsay is no pushover. He is going to get carries and the two backs will from a one-two punch of sorts.
Gordon also struggled last season after returning from his contract holdout. He wasn’t the same player that he was in 2018. Denver will have to see him return to that superstar form in order for him to continue taking large amounts of carries from Lindsay.
ESPN has released their league-wide player projections and they don’t see a big year in store for Gordon. At this point in time, they have him projected to carry the football 181 times for 722 yards and six touchdowns. They also project him to catch 46 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns.
Those numbers aren’t quite what some fans are hoping for from Gordon. That would be a solid season, but he wouldn’t be the superstar difference maker that the Broncos need him to be.
Thankfully, Drew Lock is poised to take a big step forward and the passing game is loaded with talent in Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, K.J. Hamler, and tight end Noah Fans. Denver only needs a solid all-around running game and both Gordon and Lindsay can combine to make that happen.
