The Cleveland Browns offense was hit hard by injuries during the 2023 season. They lost key contributors at several positions, including quarterback Deshaun Watson, left tackle Jack Conklin and star running back Nick Chubb.

Despite all of that, the Browns were still able to win 11 games and make the postseason. But, it should come as no surprise that Cleveland is making some changes this offseason to improve the depth of their roster as much as possible.

One of the positions the team is looking to make a change at is running back. When Chubb went down last season, the team brought back Kareem Hunt to pair with Jerome Ford in the backfield.

Ford remains in the fold, but Hunt is back to free agency after signing a one-year deal. The team still has a decision to make with Chubb, but unless something changes, it looks like they won’t be bringing Hunt back.

That is because the team has signed running back Nyheim Hines in free agency. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Hines and the Browns have agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million.

Hines missed the entire 2023 campaign with the Buffalo Bills after he suffered a devastating knee injury in an offseason jet ski accident. He tore his ACL and LCL in his left knee, ending his season before it had even gotten started.

Should Hines be healthy enough to contribute regularly on offense, he is an ideal fit for the Browns backfield. He is the perfect complement to Chubb as a third-down back, as he excels in the passing game.

In his career, Hines has caught 240 passes for 1,778 yards and eight touchdowns. He has shown improvement as a ball carrier, averaging 4.5 yards per carry in his last two full seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

He can also help out on special teams as he has experience as a kick returner and punt returner. A player capable of wearing several hats while only taking up one roster spot can provide a team with excellent value, as the Browns have added a versatile weapon to the team.
