Buffalo Bills, New York Giants Could Pull Off Intriguing Offseason Trade

Azeez Ojulari, Bills, Giants, NFL Rumors
New York Giants linebacker Azeez Ojulari (51), New York Giants defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches (93) and the rest of Big Blue were all smiles as they beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-10, Sunday, January 7, 2024.

The Buffalo Bills are going to have some difficult decisions to make this offseason. They have several key players set to hit free agency and it will be an impossibility to retain all of them. As a result, some holes are going to be opened up on their roster that need filling.

A lot of people are focusing on wide receiver Gabe Davis, who has been a boom-or-bust player during his tenure in Buffalo. The Bills have been on the lookout for a more consistent No. 2 option behind Stefon Diggs, but losing Davis would still hurt.

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones has been tabbed as their most important free agent this offseason. He has become a strong duo along with Ed Oliver in the trenches and there is no immediate replacement for him on the roster.

However, the position the Bills could use the most help at this offseason is edge rusher. They have three players, Leonard Floyd, A.J. Epenesa and Shaq Lawson set to hit free agency. That is a lot of firepower that could be leaving the defense this offseason and it will be imperative to find replacements.

Alas, that is easier said than done. The Bills don’t have a ton of money to spend in free agency and will have to get creative filling the voids if they lose any of those pass rushers. One avenue they could look to explore is flipping some of their draft capital for an affordable replacement.

Over at Bleacher Report, that is exactly what has been suggested. Buffalo could make a call to the New York Giants, a team they know well, and see if a deal can be worked out for edge rusher Azeez Oljulari.

““It’s a good thing the Bills already have Brian Daboll’s phone number, because it would be worth it to give him a call about Ojulari,” the report noted. “The Bills could potentially lose Leonard Floyd, A.J. Epenesa and Shaq Lawson from the edge. They need to find cost-effective ways to replace all those snaps and hopefully get production.

Ojulari has struggled to stay on the field and develop beyond his promising rookie campaign in New York,” the report noted. “Perhaps the rebuilding Giants would be willing to move on from him for a pick now rather than waiting around to see if he’ll do something for them this season.”

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Azeez Ojulari, New York Giants, Buffalo Bills Updates

Injuries have derailed Ojulari throughout his tenure with the Giants. He has been unable to recapture that same level of production he had as a rookie because he isn’t able to stay on the field.

After appearing in all 17 games in his first season in the NFL, he has played in only 18 in the next two combined. A change of scenery and scheme could do him well, and the Bills could provide him that opportunity.

What could it cost the Bills to acquire Ojulari from the Giants? A suggested deal is Buffalo sending a fourth-round pick, No. 128 overall, to New York in exchange for him. That is a deal both teams should be happy with given the current state of each franchise.
