Mike Adams, Safety
Cam Newton calls Panthers safety Mike Adams “Old School,” and the 37-year-old certainly kicked it old school on Sunday. He intercepted Eli Manning twice in the second half, which greatly helped Carolina’s cause as Newton also threw two picks after halftime.
Adams’ interceptions were the 28th and 29th of his career, but he also added six tackles (five solo) and two passes defended. Thus, it was an all-around strong game for the eldest member of the Panthers’ secondary.
The Panthers already have an elite defense with one of the NFL’s best front sevens, but their secondary continues to improve as well. James Bradberry and Donte Jackson are solid cornerbacks, while Eric Reid was recently signed to serve as the team’s other starting safety.
Now in his 15th NFL season, Adams is mostly in Carolina to provide veteran leadership for the Panthers’ otherwise young secondary. But the more takeaways he records, the better.
