Controlling Time of Possession
Continuing with the theme of keeping their offense on the field, the Panthers need to have a good mix of run and pass in order to control time of possession. They hold the ball for an average of 30:30, the 10th-highest mark in the NFL. However, the Buccaneers are just ahead of them with the ninth-highest mark of 30:46.
It will be key for Carolina to put together long drives on Sunday because Tampa Bay will be looking to do the same thing. If the Panthers can control the clock, it will force the Buccaneers to play from behind.
The Panthers need to limit three-and-outs and punts against the Buccaneers. They punted just three times against the Ravens in Week 8, and three punts or less would be a nice number to shoot for this week as well.
The team that possesses the ball more wins more times than not, and that’s the way the Panthers are built. Now it’s time to follow that blueprint to a key divisional win.
