Christian McCaffrey Is a Legit NFL Running Back

Christian McCaffrey has been a catalyst for the Panthers’ offense over the first two weeks, mostly through the air. But he proved on Sunday that he has what it takes to be an every-down running back as well.

A week after catching 14 passes for 102 yards, McCaffrey put together the best rushing performance of his young career. The Stanford product carried 28 times for 184 yards, including this 45-yard jolt that led to the Panthers’ first touchdown in the first quarter:

C.J. Anderson only had two carries for nine yards for Carolina, so most of the weight fell on McCaffrey. Cam Newton added 10 carries for 36 yards and two scores, but it was still McCaffrey who stood out for the Panthers’ offense.

McCaffrey is now averaging 91 rushing yards per game and 5.9 yards per carry, both solid marks. Particularly for a guy who is still in the early stages of his NFL career.
