After losing to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13, the Los Angeles Chargers picked up a huge win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 14 to get back over the .500 mark and keep pace in the playoff race. They then picked up a hard-fought 17-14 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 15. At 8-6, Los Angeles is in the driver’s seat for a Wild Card spot in the AFC.

Another big matchup is on the docket for Week 16 as the Chargers will be heading on the road to face off with the Indianapolis Colts, who are currently just 4-9-1. But, as long as Justin Herbert is under center for Los Angeles, they have to feel confident about winning games.

Herbert had a huge game against Miami’s vulnerable pass defense, bouncing back after a shaky outing against the Raiders the previous week. In fact, it was a record-setting performance for the Oregon product.

He completed 76.5 percent of his passes, going 39-of-51 for 367 yards and one touchdown. There have been over 700 times in NFL history that a player attempted at least 50 passes in a game, but Herbert’s evening differentiated from all of those previous instances.

According to OptaSTATS, Herbert is the only player out of that bunch to complete 75 percent of his passes with zero interceptions and lead his team to a victory.

This is the third time this season that Herbert has attempted 50+ passes in a game, as the Chargers went 2-1 in those games. However, in neither of the previous two outings did Herbert complete at least 75 percent of his passes and he threw at least one interception in each game.

With Los Angeles getting healthier on offense, as Mike Williams returned to the lineup against the Dolphins and caught a touchdown, this is a unit that should start peaking soon as long as they stay healthy. With Williams and Keenan Allen both rounding into shape, Herbert has one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL to get the ball to with Joshua Palmer having a huge season filling in for the injured starters.
