Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, showcased an impressive performance last season, guiding his team to the playoffs with a remarkable third consecutive 12-5 record.
However, there are skeptics who doubt the sustainability of this success for another year.
Among them is Prescott’s own brother, Tad, who expressed his reservations on the I Am Athlete podcast, suggesting that similar expectations for 2024 might not be realistic.
“I’m a realist. The only reason I say worse is because, in order for him to be better, he’s an MVP. He’s a first-team All-Pro, and he’s a Super Bowl champion. I mean, Dak’s second-team All-Pro, second in MVP voting, and leader in touchdown passes [last season]. So the only way you can get better than that is to do what I just said.”
Brandon Marshall, one of the hosts of I Am Athlete, disagreed with Tad’s stance. Marshall believes Prescott is poised to replicate the impressive start of his 2020 campaign, prior to his season-ending ankle injury. During the initial five games of 2020, Prescott accumulated 1,856 passing yards and nine touchdowns, despite four interceptions.
Prescott’s performance in the previous season saw him achieve career highs, boasting a 69.5% completion rate and a 105.9 quarterback rating, along with an impressive 36 touchdown passes—just one shy of his personal best. Expectations are understandably high for him to maintain this level of excellence, particularly as he enters a contract year alongside head coach Mike McCarthy.
While Prescott and the Cowboys have enjoyed regular season success, they’ve struggled to advance deep into the playoffs. Last season, Prescott faced disappointment with two interceptions in a 48-32 Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers, who were seeded seventh.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that all four quarterbacks in the conference championship games last season were younger than Prescott, hinting at a potential narrowing Super Bowl window for both Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.
