The Chicago Bears could use a backup quarterback and a veteran presence to help mentor Caleb Williams when they select him first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Ryan Tannehill, the former Miami Dolphins quarterback, remains unattached as he explores potential landing spots for his upcoming age 36 season.

Zack Cook, writing for Sports Grid, forecasts Tannehill’s probable signing with the Bears, envisioning him as a seasoned mentor for the anticipated young quarterback the Bears are poised to draft.

“Although Ryan Tannehill is no longer at the point of his career where he’s a bonafide starting quarterback, he can still present value to an NFL team in 2024. Backup quarterbacks have value, and Tannehill should present that for a team with a young signal-caller.”

Though Tannehill has contended with injuries throughout his career, he showcased his prowess by surpassing 4,000 passing yards in two seasons with the Dolphins. During his tenure with the Tennessee Titans, Tannehill achieved over 3,700 passing yards in two out of five seasons.

Regarded as the premier available option at his position, according to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, Tannehill boasts a track record of consistency and reliability.

In his most recent extensive playing time during the 2021 season, he amassed 3,734 passing yards, along with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

While the Chicago Bears may not offer Tannehill an immediate shot at a starting role, especially with their expected selection of Caleb Williams in the upcoming draft, Kerr notes Tannehill’s potential value as a seasoned backup—a role the Bears could find enticing.
