Bears Urged To Make Blockbuster Trade As Soon As Possible

Coming into Week 1 action, the Chicago Bears were one of the most hyped teams in the NFL. Justin Fields was expected to dominate the Green Bay Packers and show that he is the next big superstar at the quarterback position. That didn’t happen and the Bears ended up losing in embarrassing fashion by a final score of 38-20.

One of the biggest issues for the Bears’ offense was their inability to move the football on the ground. Khalil Herbert picked up just 27 yards on nine carries, Roschon Johnson had 20 yards on five carries, and D’Onta Foreman had 16 yards on five carries. Those numbers aren’t going to get the job done.

Now, the Bears are being urged to pull off a massive blockbuster trade as soon as possible. That trade would be with the Indianapolis Colts for superstar running back Jonathan Taylor.

“Let’s just put them at 1-3 through four weeks. Do they go ahead, get the phone, call [Indianapolis Colts general manager] Chris Ballard and make a deal for Jonathan Taylor?” Eisen said. “Because I’ll tell you what was missing [in Week 1]. That, hit-you-in-the-mouth, let’s-bring-someone-to-Big-Ten-country [running]. I’m just wondering if that’s something to put out there if you’re 1-3. Khalil Herbert might not be it.”

Taylor has been mentioned in rumors connected to the Bears for a few months now. Ever since it was reported that Taylor had requested a trade from the Colts, Chicago has been considered a top potential suitor.

Outside of the Bears, there are other teams with rumored interest in Taylor. Most notably, the Miami Dolphins have been very aggressive in their pursuit of a Taylor trade. Perhaps the most surprising trade suitor who discussed a deal with the Colts was the Green Bay Packers, who are reportedly now out on a potential trade for the star running back.

A backfield featuring Fields and Taylor would certainly be intriguing for the Bears. If Taylor can get back to the way he played two years ago, he would immediately take the Chicago offense to another level. However, if last season was who he will end up being, the Bears may want to pass on this possibility.

All of that being said, pressing the panic button after Week 1 is very premature. The Bears have a chance in Week 2 to head to Tampa Bay and get their first win of the season against the Buccaneers. If they look bad again this week, making a move like this would make much more sense.
