The Chicago Bears acquired edge rusher Montez Sweat from at the trade deadline earlier this year, and they may be interested in another pass rusher this offseason: San Francisco 49ers star Chase Young.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler polled front office executives around the league, and they apparently like the Bears’ chances of landing Young in free agency.

Both Sweat and Young began the year playing for the Washington Commanders, and both players were dealt at the deadline.

In 16 games between the Commanders and the 49ers this season, Young logged 27 tackles and 7.5 sacks.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by Washington with the second overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, rattling off 44 tackles, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The following year, Young played in just nine game before tearing his ACL. During his time on the field that season, he posted 26 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a couple of forced fumbles.

He would play in only three games in 2022 due to his recovery and other injury issues, recording five tackles without a sack.

Young appeared to be approaching bust territory heading into this season, but he somewhat redeemed himself with a moderately productive campaign.

The good news is that Young is still youthful and has plenty of time to get himself right. He has ample talent and could very well be end up being one of the top free-agent signings this spring.

We’ll see if the Bears do in fact try to reunite him with Sweat.
