The Buffalo Bills came into the 2023 season with very high expectations. They were expected to be legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl, but they are watching their season slowly go down the drain.

The latest hiccup for the franchise came on Monday Night Football in Week 10 against the Denver Broncos. The Bills lost the game on a walk-off field goal by Wil Lutz, who got a second chance after missing his first attempt. But, Buffalo was called for 12 men on the field, which gave Lutz another opportunity from five yards closer and he banged it through the uprights.

A big reason the Bills were even in that position was another underwhelming performance by quarterback Josh Allen. Allen turned the ball over three more times, throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble.

Allen, like his teammates, just has not been able to consistently put things together this season. It has resulted in some head-scratching losses, as the one to Denver was the latest. A loss to the New York Jets after Aaron Rodgers injured his Achilles in Week 1 and falling to the New England Patriots in Week 7 are inexcusable.

Reigning MVP, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, offered up a piece of advice to Allen during an appearance on the Manningcast. He believes Allen and the Bills just have to get back to basics.

We saw just how much Allen could be impacted by an injury last year when he fought through an elbow issue. If his shortcomings are injury-related, the Bills have to figure out a way to get him healthy or find a way to put him in better positions to succeed.

They are hoping a recent move will lead to that happening. Looking to shake things up, the Bills made a big change, firing offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey on Tuesday morning. Pinning all of Allen’s shortcomings on the offensive coordinator certainly isn’t fair; he isn’t the one making poor decisions with the football.

But, something needed to change. The Bills are hoping that this will fire the team up, as a new voice could do Allen some good. But, the advice that Mahomes shared is the best to take. He just has to trust himself and his skills, which have made him a perennial MVP candidate in recent seasons.
