Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been dealing with a pesky calf injury since training camp, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
Burrow has gotten off to a very rough start this season, and this week, he finally admitted that his calf issue has been limiting him.
“When it (injury) first happened, you take a little time off throwing because I didn’t want to really get in bad habits,” said Burrow, via Zach Ragan of A to Z Sports. “It’s something that I’ve had to think about. Trying to find ways to get velocity on it — maybe without putting as much pressure on that calf. As it gets healthier, I’ll be able to kind of change that. But right now, I’m feeling my way through it.”
Burrow was listed as questionable for the Bengals’ Week 3 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, but he played, going 26-for-49 with 259 yards and an interception in a pivotal 19-16 win.
He has not been given a designation heading into his team’s clash with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, so it appears that Burrow is a full go. But that does not mean he is healthy.
On the season overall, Joe Burrow has thrown for 563 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions while completing just 55.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 66.2. He has hardly resembled the quarterback that made the Pro Bowl last season and took his team all the way to the Super Bowl two years ago, but it’s obvious that he has been compromised.
Cincinnati got off to an 0-2 start this season and desperately needed a win over the Rams last Monday to stay alive in the competitive AFC North division. The Bengals ultimately secured what was likely a season-saving victory, but they still have a long road ahead of them.
