The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to sign New England Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It’s a one-year deal worth up to $3.25 million.

Gesicki is coming off of a disappointing 2023 campaign in which he played every game and logged 29 catches for 244 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was originally selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie year, totaling just 22 catches for 202 yards. Then, the following year, Gesicki began to flash his potential, catching 51 passes for 570 yards and five touchdowns.

Gesicki continued to show improvement in his third season, snaring 53 balls for 703 yards while reaching the end zone six times. He proceeded to continue to ascend in 2021, hauling in 73 receptions for 780 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

However, in his final season with the Dolphins, Gesicki regressed considerably, finishing with 32 grabs for 362 yards and five scores.

He ultimately signed with the Patriots last offseason and was expected to have a major role within the offense, but he ended up being a bust for the club.

Now, Gesicki will take his talents to the Bengals.

The Lakewood, N.J. native will join a Cincinnati offense conducted by Joe Burrow and also features top receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins (although Higgins recently asked for a trade). The Bengals have been in need of a tight end, so they are hoping that Gesicki can step in and fill that role.

We’ll see if Mike Gesicki bounces back in 2024.
