Crushes ACC’s Rushing Record

Barring a catastrophic injury, Travis Etienne should easily break Ted Brown’s ACC record for most career rushing yards. Brown played for North Carolina State from 1975 through 1978, amassing 4,602 rushing yards.

Dalvin Cook came close to breaking Brown’s record when he totaled 4,464 rushing yards during his three years at Florida State. However, Etienne should blow the record away this season. A.J. Dillon (4,382) and Lamar Jackson (4,132) also came within striking distance of the record in recent years.

The greatest back in Clemson history, Etienne holds the school record with 4,038 rushing yards. In 2019, he appeared in all 15 of Clemson’s matchups and averaged 107.6 rushing yards per game. If Etienne holds that average in 2020, he’ll break Brown’s record in six games.

Etienne’s production remained fairly consistent between his sophomore and junior seasons. During those years, he averaged 1,636 rushing yards as Clemson made back-to-back National Championship appearances. If Etienne matches that production in 2020, the ACC’s new rushing record will be 5,674 yards, more than 1,000 yards over the previous mark.

Etienne already holds the Clemson and ACC records for most rushing touchdowns in a career with 56. James Conner (52) and Jackson (50) make up the remainder of the top three.

Clemson’s superstar running back won the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year awards in 2018 and 2019, making him arguably the most accomplished back in conference history.
