With the Super Bowl now behind us, NFL fans eagerly turn their attention to the upcoming draft and free agency period. Among the teams generating buzz is the Cleveland Browns, poised to make intriguing moves as they shape their roster for the 2024 season.

As teams strategize their draft picks and assess which veterans to retain or release, the spotlight falls on the Browns, who closed out the previous season with Joe Flacco at quarterback.

While Flacco’s performance garnered support from many Browns faithful, opinions differ on whether he should return for another season.

On Tuesday, Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan weighed in on the debate, expressing skepticism about Flacco’s potential return (via 92.3 The Fan on Twitter). Instead, Carman proposed the idea of signing Pittsburgh Steelers’ backup quarterback, Mitch Trubisky.

“If Mitch Trubisky doesn’t see the field then he’s just a local guy who’s the backup quarterback for the Browns. He’s a good athlete, I bet he could run the offense, you can take care of him.”

Carman’s rationale for favoring Trubisky revolves around the quarterback’s ties to Mentor, Ohio, his hometown. Moreover, Carman believes that Trubisky’s local roots could help mitigate potential backlash from fans if incumbent starter Deshaun Watson encounters difficulties on the field.

Trubisky boasts an impressive football pedigree, having honed his skills at Mentor High School, where he amassed 9,126 passing yards and 92 touchdowns for the Fighting Cardinals. His standout performance at the high school level paved the way for a successful collegiate career at North Carolina, culminating in his selection by the Chicago Bears in the NFL Draft.

Since then, Trubisky has also made stops with the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, adding valuable experience to his resume.
