Green Bay Packers Showing Interest In Sleeper Quarterback

Jordan Love has already proven that he is the Green Bay Packers‘ quarterback of the future. Barring a major slump in 2024, Love has already established himself as the face of the franchise.

However, behind Love, there are question marks.

Currently, the Packers’ backup quarterback is Sean Clifford, who the club took in the fifth round of the NFL Draft last spring. Green Bay seems to like Clifford, but it could certainly stand to add some more depth and insurance at the position.

The Packers seem to be preparing to do that in the draft next week, as they hosted UTEP signal-caller Gavin Hardison for a visit earlier this week, via Tom Pelissero of NFL media.

Hardison’s 2023 campaign was abbreviated to five games due to an elbow injury that ultimately required Tommy John surgery. During his time on the field last season, he threw for 947 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 56.6 percent of his passes.

The chances of Hardison actually being drafted seem slim, so Green Bay could have hosted him in the event that the club pursues him as an undrafted free agent.

Hardison arrived at UTEP in 2019, but didn’t really begin to get playing time until 2020. That year, he totaled 1,419 yards, five touchdowns and five picks in seven games.

Then, in 2021, Hardison became the Miners’ full-time starter and enjoyed his best collegiate season, registering 3,218 yards, 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 55.5 percent of his throws. He then went on to record 2,044 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight picks in 2022.

Obviously, Hardison’s numbers are not very impressive, but he has decent size, good arm strength and solid mobility that could intrigue an NFL team to give him a chance of making a roster.

Perhaps the Packers will end up being that team.
