2023 marks the dawn of a new era for the Indianapolis Colts. They have a new head coach in Shane Steichen, who came over to the franchise after two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.
There is a lot of optimism and hope surrounding the Colts as their rookie class has a lot of people excited. Leading the charge in that regard is quarterback Anthony Richardson, whom Indianapolis selected No. 4 overall.
While we wait to see when Richardson will take the field for the Colts for the first time, not everyone will be so lucky during their rookie season. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network announced that fellow 2023 draft pick, fifth-rounder, safety Daniel Scott, will miss the entire 2023 season because of a torn ACL.
That is a brutal break for Scott, who was living out his dream of becoming a professional football player. He will now have to wait a little longer to make his debut as it will come during the 2024 season at the very earliest.
Scott played five seasons collegiately at California and really came on the last two years. He registered 167 total tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions and six passes defended in 24 games.
Despite some lackluster results on the field, Cal has produced a good number of NFL players. Scott is the next in line of what has been some very good recent success in turning players into professionals.
While his age and overall body of work may have been seen as deterrents, there is a lot to like about Scott. He possesses a great combination of size and athleticism, standing 6’2” and weighing 205 pounds while his athleticism score was second among safeties at the NFL Combine.
Scott also brings some versatility to a roster along with his experience. He was not only a team captain with the Golden Bears but played every phase of special teams. At the very least, he will be able to contribute there when healthy even if he can’t crack the defensive lineup right away.
