The No. 1 thing for the Indianapolis Colts to keep in mind going forward when making roster moves is how this help Anthony Richardson succeed. If the Colts want to join the ranks of the contenders once again any time soon, they need him to develop and reach his immense potential.

One way to do that is to continue to add weapons around him. The more weapons that Richardson has at his disposal, the easier it will be to bring him along. So, that is exactly what the Colts just did.

Indianapolis announced that they signed wide receiver Amari Rodgers on Wednesday afternoon. Rodgers was released by the Houston Texans earlier this week and went unclaimed on waivers, enabling the Colts to bring him in and continue his tour of the AFC South.

Rodgers played six games with the Texans last season, catching 12 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown. He added two rushes for seven yards as well. That followed a tough start to the 2022 season with the Green Bay Packers, where he was used mostly as a punt returner.

The first 10 games of the season were played in Green Bay, but he was waived after he struggled with ball security. He had five fumbles on 20 punt returns, six kick returns and four receptions.

Despite being a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Clemson, the Packers had seen enough to warrant releasing him. The Colts are now his third team in less than a year and he will be looking to stick around this time.

There is certainly an opportunity for Rodgers to make the Colts’ roster as their wide receiver depth chart is up in the air beyond their top three. Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce and rookie Josh Downs should hold down those spots, but anything after that is up for grabs.

With some good performances during Colts training camp, one of the spots after that could go to Rodgers. If he can figure out his fumbling problems on special teams, it would improve his chances of sticking around.
