Everything was setting up well for the Washington Commanders heading into their Week 5 matchup with the Chicago Bears. They were at home for Thursday Night Football, which is always an advantage, and Chicago was down multiple starting offensive linemen.

With the strength of their defense being their front seven and having an advantage on offense with their running game, many people thought the Commanders would run away with this game. Alas, that didn’t end up being the case.

Washington had no answers for the Chicago offense, as Justin Fields torched them for 282 passing yards and four touchdowns. Nearly all his damage through the air went to D.J. Moore, who caught eight passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

It was a truly dominant performance by the Bears and one not many people could see coming. The Commanders were coming off of a Sunday afternoon overtime loss to the Philadelphia Eagles; many thought they would make quick work of Chicago at home.

It was a truly embarrassing performance by the Commanders getting run out of their stadium by the previously winless Bears, who had lost 14 consecutive games dating back to last season. It drew harsh criticism from owner Magic Johnson, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice his displeasure.

Johnson saw the dismantling firsthand as he was at the game. Part of the group of 20 limited partners who now own the franchise with Josh Harris, Johnson has been very present whether it be at games or charity events.

This was the first time Johnson said anything negative about his new team, as he isn’t shy about sharing what he is thinking on social media. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin and defensive end Montez Sweat both agreed with Johnson’s assessment when talking after the game.

Now 2-3 on the season, the Commanders will be heading on the road to face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6
