Two years ago, the New York Giants made some major changes to their organization. After years of relying on people with ties to the organization to make decisions, they went in a different direction.

Joe Schoen was hired away from the Buffalo Bills to become the new general manager, replacing Dave Gettleman. He brought offensive coordinator Brain Daboll along with him to become the team’s new head coach, replacing Joe Judge.

It breathed some optimism into the fan base as the Bills were turning into one of the juggernauts in the league. Poaching two rising talents as the next regime to lead the Giants was seen as a good thing.

NFL News & Rumors: Louis Riddick, Nick Saban, Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll, New York Giants Updates

There were a ton of interviews held for the positions when they were open two years ago. One of the people to interview for the general manager spot was Louis Riddick, who is currently an analyst at ESPN.

During a recent appearance, Riddick revealed something interesting from his interview. He said that one of the people he called to gauge their interest in becoming head coach of the team, should he have gotten the job, was Nick Saban. The update was shared by Anthony Rivardo of Empire Sports Media.

That is certainly an interesting tidbit of information. Riddick and Saban teaming up as the new regime for New York would have drawn a lot of attention, especially given how poorly things went for Saban as head coach of the Miami Dolphins for two seasons.

The Giants look to be in good hands with Schoen and Daboll leading the way, as they oversaw a playoff victory in Year 1. A major step was taken back in Year 2, heading into what is a very important offseason before embarking on Year 3.

Will the Giants select their quarterback of the future, giving Schoen and Daboll their guy after sticking with Daniel Jones for the first two seasons? How will things play out with running back Saquon Barkley?

Roster-wise, those are the two biggest questions Schoen and Daboll are facing. But, it is far from the only tough decision as multiple spots on the coaching staff need to be filled as well. This is an important offseason for the two as they could be on the hot seat with an ownership group that has meddled and had a quick trigger finger in recent years.
