Jaire Alexander and the Green Bay Packers have gotten off to a rather strange start in 2023.
They won two of their first three games and looked like genuine contenders in the NFC at first, as young quarterback Jordan Love flashed considerable arm talent and orchestrated a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3.
However, since then, the Packers have done kind of a 180.
Green Bay has lost two straight games, first falling to the Detroit Lions by a score of 34-20 in Week 4 before losing to the Las Vegas Raiders in a listless effort in Week 5.
As a result, the Packers are in a rather odd position heading into the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, as it’s hard to determine whether they will be buyers or sellers.
Well, Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports feels that Green Bay should actually consider moving star cornerback Jaire Alexander if the price is right.
Ferreira notes that by moving Alexander, the Packers would open up a ton of cap space, as Alexander is under contract through 2026 and is earning a substantial salary, particularly toward the back end of his deal.
While Ferreira is sure to state that he is not suggesting that Green Bay merely give Alexander away, he is simply saying that the Packers should be open to the possibility if a team is willing to cough up some pricy draft assets in exchange for him.
Alexander is in his sixth season with Green Bay and has made two Pro Bowl appearances, most recently doing so last year when he racked up 56 tackles, five interceptions and 14 passes defended.
The 26-year-old has been limited to three games this season due to injuries. During his time on the field i 2023, Alexander has logged 11 tackles and a couple of passes defended.
The Packers will battle the Denver Broncos this weekend.
