The Green Bay Packers have a nice stable of young wide receivers, but they still lack a proven commodity at the position. Fortunately for the Packers, they have some time between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to address the issue and improve their offense. Could Green Bay turn to the Denver Broncos for a fix involving Courtland Sutton?
The Broncos finally won their first game of the season this past Sunday, rallying for a 31-28 victory over the Chicago Bears. However, it’s still pretty clear that Denver isn’t going anywhere, especially considering its Week 4 triumph came at the expense of the winless Bears.
As a result, the Broncos are expected to be sellers in the coming weeks, and one piece everyone is watching is Sutton.
The IKE Packers Podcast mentions Sutton as a potential candidate for Green Bay, posing the question of whether or not Packers fans would send a fifth or sixth-round draft pick to Denver in exchange for him.
If that’s all it would take to land Sutton, then Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst should absolutely get on the phone and make something happen.
There was a time when Sutton appeared to be one of the top up and coming receivers in football. Back in his second NFL season in 2019, he hauled in 72 receptions for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns. Unfortunately, a torn ACL ended his season after just one game in 2020, and he hasn’t been the same ever since.
That being said, Sutton is still productive. He has already logged 20 catches for 216 yards and three scores in 2023, and last year, he caught 64 passes for 829 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
Green Bay may very well check in on Courtland Sutton over the next few weeks, and if a late-round pick is all that is required to pry him away from Denver, the Packers may very well end up with him.
Green Bay is 2-2 and will take on the Las Vegas Raiders next Monday.
