Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is closing in on a pair of massive franchise records, and he has two games left to reach them.

Lamb currently has 109 receptions (which leads the NFL) and 1,424 receiving yards on the season, putting him awfully close to Cowboys legend Michael Irvin, who tallied 111 catches for 1,603 yards in 1995 (which marks the last time the franchise won a Super Bowl).

Breaking Dallas’ record for receptions seems like a given. All Lamb needs to do is catch three more passes, and he passes Irvin for No. 1 all time on the list. Lamb has logged at least four receptions in every game this season, so barring injury or some other weird circumstance, Lamb will set that record.

Now, as for receiving yards, Lamb has 179 yards to go. He is averaging 94.9 receiving yards per game this season, which means he is posting about 190 yards every two games. So, he will be cutting it close.

The good news for Lamb is that the last two teams on the Cowboys’ schedule are the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders, and both clubs have shoddy pass defenses. The Lions rank 23rd in the NFL in pass defense, and the Commanders are second-to-last in that category.

Lamb has added nine touchdowns to go along with his reception and yardage totals.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was selected by Dallas with the 17th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, catching 74 passes for 935 yards and five touchdowns. Lamb then showed some improvement the following year, snaring 79 balls for 1,102 yards and six scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. Lamb proceeded to truly break out last season, hauling in 107 receptions for 1,359 yards while reaching the end zone nine times. He made another trip to the Pro Bowl for his efforts.

CeeDee Lamb and the Cowboys are 10-5 on the season and are fighting for an NFC East division title. They are currently one game behind the Philadelphia Eagles for first place. They are also riding a two-game losing skid and are aiming to break it this Sunday.
