Cowboys Could Pursue Dolphins’ Defensive Star In Free Agency

The Dallas Cowboys‘ defense is elite, but it could still use some shoring up in certain areas. Their run defense, for example, is one area that can stand to improve.

For that reason, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks the Cowboys should pursue Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Christian Wilkins in free agency.

Wilkins is one of the best run stuffers in football and even showed some impressive pass-rushing chops this season, racking up 65 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble and a couple of fumble recoveries.

The 28-year-old is slated to be one of the top defensive players on the open market this March, and given the Dolphins’ tenuous salary cap situation, they may not be able to bring him back.

Now, it should be noted that Dallas does not exactly have a great cap status either. The Cowboys are currently $11 million over the cap heading into the offseason, so it will take some shrewd maneuvering from the front office to open up enough space to sign someone like Wilkins.

But it may be well worth it.

Wilkins, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was selected by Miami with the 13th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Not only has he been productive, but he has been very durable. Since entering the league, he has missed a grand total of three games. As a matter of fact, the last he sat out was back in 2020.

Wilkins would instantly improve the Cowboys’ defensive front (and as we saw in Dallas’ Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers, it could use some help in the trenches) and would also further open things up for linebacker Micah Parsons, who is already one of football’s most dominant defenders.
