Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his deal, but he doesn’t seem to be worried about the future.

While speaking to reporters at his Children’s Cancer Fund event on Monday, Prescott said that he is “definitely confident” something will get done between him and the Cowboys.

“It helps with the team and it helps with the numbers,” Prescott said of a contract extension, according to Nick Harris of the Cowboys’ official team website. “Everything is great. It’ll happen.”

Prescott is set to earn $29 million in base salary next season and carries a $59.455 million cap hit, but if Dallas is able to reach a long-term extension with the signal-caller, it would reduce his number for 2024.

The 30-year-old is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he played every game and led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes. He also totaled 4,516 yards and nine interceptions while completing 69.5 percent of his throws and posting a passer rating of 105.9. He finished second in MVP voting and earned his third Pro Bowl selection as a result.

However, Prescott has been largely criticized for his playoff struggles, as the veteran is now just 2-5 in the postseason after he and the Cowboys were routed by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round this past January. Prescott threw a couple of interceptions as Dallas found itself behind 27-0 early on.

Since then, many have wondered if Prescott is worth the money the Cowboys would have to pay him in a new deal, but the question is, where would Dallas find a better answer?

There is no question that Prescott is one of the better quarterbacks in football, and finding a superior option to replace him would certainly be difficult.

The Cowboys have not made it past the Divisional Round of the playoffs since January 1996, so the frustration is understandable, but it seems rather hard to pin all of the blame on Prescott.

Chances are, Dallas will end up re-signing Dak Prescott to a lucrative long-term deal.
