Dallas Cowboys fans who were expecting fireworks at the trade deadline may end up disappointed based on comments made by owner Jerry Jones this week.
During an appearance on 1053 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones said that if a trade does occur, it will be the result of another team reaching out to the Cowboys first.
“The initiation of an opportunity to make a trade at this time that would help us principally has to start over on the other end,” said Jones (h/t JPAFootball). “I like where we are with our personnel today.”
That statement by Jones probably won’t sit well with many of the Dallas faithful, as it has seemed pretty clear over the Cowboys’ first six games that there are some holes that need patching.
Dallas certainly appears to be in need of another weapon in its aerial attack as well as some help defensively due to injuries to key players like cornerback Trevon Diggs and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. Additionally, the Cowboys could probably also stand to improve the depth along their offensive line, which has been riddled with health issues in 2023.
That’s not to say that Dallas is bad football team by any means. The Cowboys are 4-2, and there have been stretches this season where they have looked dominant.
However, the club has also had head-scratching moments, like its 28-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals back in Week 3 (which remains the Cardinals’ only win thus far) and its 42-10 blowout defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5.
As it stands, the Cowboys are a game-and-a-half behind the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. Dallas is yet to play the Eagles, but it does have a matchup looming in Philadelphia in a couple of weeks.
The Cowboys had a bye in Week 7 and is getting prepared to play host to the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday.
